The manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Kenny Jackett, has made it clear that he will use his new signing Nouha Dicko as the main striker and not as a winger.

The Wolves have recently bought Dicko from Wigan Athletic after paying an unrevealed transfer fee.

Dicko who is a young French player is capable of playing up front as well as on the wings. He has performed well playing at both the positions for various clubs in the last few years. There were speculations that at Wigan, he will be used more as a winger, but, Jackett has denied that. According to the Wolves boss, Dicko can be better utilized up front and he will play at that position only.

Talking to the reporters yesterday, Jackett said, “For me, Nouha is a forward. Yes, he has been used at other positions too at times, but, I have brought him in as a striking option only.”

“As far as playing on the wings is concerned, we have got players for that. What we needed was a good central forward and that’s why, we signed him. He will be considered as a winger only in emergency situations.”

Jackett also said that a few more players might be making their way at the Wolverhampton ground in the upcoming weeks.

When asked if any more signings are on the cards, the 51 years old Welshman said, “Yes, there might be a few more guys coming in. However, nothing is certain at the moment. We are having a look at different options. Let’s see what happens.”

The Wolves have performed amazingly well in the League One this season. They have won 15 out of their 26 games and are presently at the third position in the table. They are just 3 points behind the top positioned Brentford.

Wolves offer trial to LA Galaxy player Jack McBean

Wolves, the League One team, have given a trial to Jack McBean, LA Galaxy’s striker. The 18 year old footballer came to Molineux after ending the season with Los Angeles Galaxy at the Major League Soccer where he scored 7 goals during the season.

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett told that Jack is here training for a few days. They would see how he fits in and whether he is one to look at in the future. Major League Soccer is a good league. If they have a look at some of youngsters there that might help them.

The Wolves manager added that as the Major League Soccer season in the United States draws to an end, they might do that with a few other footballers as well where they could have a look whether it be the footballers probably for the 1st squad or development group.

In the mean time, Wolves’ Wayne Hennessey has come back to the team following the completion of his 3 month loan time for the Championship team Yeovil Town. After missing the last season because of injury, the twenty six year old Wales international footballer has already proved his fitness at Huish Park. He also won back the No 1 jersey at the international level.

Wayne is not eligible for FA Cup 1st round replay on Tuesday night against Oldham Athletic because he was not in the team when the original match was played at the Boundary Park.

WOLVES MISS DOYLE

Wolves are unlikely to have star striker Kevin Doyle for the match against Sheffield United during the weekend. The Republic of Ireland international missed the match against Shrewsbury recently, and it appears that he has not returned to full fitness yet in time for this match.

Despite the lack of Doyle, manager Kenny Jackett says that he is confident of being able to manage the striking options in the team. He has said that the club already has four strikers at the disposal, but he is targeting one more striker in order to strengthen the squad.

He says that the squad will be complete following the addition of a new striker. It remains to be seen if Wolves can bring in a new name between now and the start of January. Leigh Griffiths has given his manager a big boost by returning to training and he is likely to be played alongside Bjorn Sigurdarson. Sigurdarson has been one of the best players for Wolves in recent weeks, and his performance could be crucial if they are to get three points against Sheffield United. The club has made a good start to the season, which is what fans have been expecting after two successive relegations.

Sigurdarson was not properly utilised in a wide role according to the manager.

“Both Doyle and Bjorn are in my thoughts and if we want to do well this season then we’re going to need three strikers fit. I was pleased with Jake Cassidy when he came off the bench on Saturday – I thought he played well. We have four strikers and if we can get five, fine. We have Liam McAlinden in that fifth slot at present, so if I can have them all, and have a strong bench, that would be my preference,” said Jackett.

SUCCESSFUL START

Wolves have enjoyed a very good pre-season for the first time in two years after the arrival of Kenny Jackett as the replacement for Dean Saunders. The club has suffered two consecutive relegations, which is threatening to destroy the club itself.

They will be having huge financial problems if they do not manage to sell their top players like Karl Henry and Jamie O’Hara. They were some of the first names on the transfer list after the arrival of Jackett. Many expected the club to suffer even more without the experience and quality of such players.

However, Wolves have seen a refreshing change under Jackett as they have been able to win most of the pre-season matches. They are also unbeaten so far in the pre-season campaign, and the manager has admitted for the first time that he is closer to form in his starting 11. Since there are several changes the squad following their relegation, Jackett has said that deciding upon his first-team was the most difficult aspect. After having seen their performances in the pre-season, he is confident that the get back into the Championship in the first attempt itself.

Wolves will be taking on Preston North end in the first game of the new season. Jackett will be hoping to get the maximum three points from this opening away fixture.

“I wouldn’t say there’s a way to go, It’s pretty close now. I’m trying to get my best eleven out there in the best formation. I would say I’m close to where I think I want to be. There’s Lee Evans, Jack Price, David Davis and obviously Dave Edwards. There’s a variation of players there, old and young, and experience, and it will be needed. Tongo Doumbia had a good first half-an-hour on Saturday, I thought he did very well,” said Jackett.

GRIFFITHS WANTS HIBS MOVE

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Leigh Griffiths has said that he wants to stay at Hibernian after the end of his loan spell because he is not interested in playing in League One.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Leigh Griffiths has said that he wants to stay at Hibernian after the end of his loan spell because he is not interested in playing in League One.

Wolves were recently relegated from the Championship, while this is the second successive relegation suffered by the club. Griffiths has been one of the standout players in the Scottish Premier league this season. He has managed to score 28 goals in all competitions, which has helped him win the best player of the year award from the Football writers Association. He has also won the player of the year award from the Scottish Premier league as well.

Wolves have extended his contract, but the player has said that he is not interested in playing for the English club anymore. Instead, he wants to make the loan spell to Hibernian permanent in the summer. Wolves Chief Executive, though, has said that he is confident that Griffiths can be convinced to return to his parent club. The 22-year-old joined Wolves back in 2011 from Dundee United, but he has made just one appearance for the club since then. Wolves will be targeting a return to the Championship immediately and the presence of a quality striker will be essential to the team.

“It’s not 100% definite that I’ll be going back to Wolves. I want to stay here. I love the club and I don’t want to leave yet. It’s up to Hibs and Wolves to agree a fee. Wolves have taken up the option of another year on my contract and they want me to be a big part of their plans for promotion next season. But I don’t want to leave Hibs. It’s the fans that I have really taken to because I’m one of them. I’ve showed on the park how much they mean to me and how much the club means to me,” said Griffiths.

Jackpot City on the brink of a Premiership sponsorship deal

Given that gambling is one of the very few forms of entertainment that can compete with football when it comes to popularity and revenue these days, the increasing links between the two should not come as any surprise.

Given that gambling is one of the very few forms of entertainment that can compete with football when it comes to popularity and revenue these days, the increasing links between the two should not come as any surprise.

In fact there has long been links between them, as fans have traditionally enjoyed betting on results with sports bookmakers, while players have frequently adopted horse racing as a pastime to help them relax; but in the modern era it is the digital gambling explosion – represented by top online casino sites like JackpotCity (JPC) that is defining the future of gambling, and football is now beginning to recognise this.

Already a number of clubs in the Premiership and Championship are sponsored by online casino and sports bet sites, and now JPC is rumoured to be getting in on the action by signing a sponsorship deal with an as-yet unidentified Premier League club. Of course, at this stage, it is just a rumour, but it certainly seems to make sense both for JPC and whichever football team is involved, so we can’t rule it out.

Should it be one of the established big name clubs in the league, a lucrative deal with one of the major names in a growth industry like online casino gambling will be a welcome money-spinner as they look to increase the amounts of money they are bringing in, ahead of the UEFA Financial Fair Play legislation that has attracted so much attention.

On the other hand if it is one of those clubs aiming to break into the top four, signing a deal with an international brand like JPC will do their profile in other countries a lot of good – while the money will enhance their chances on the field. Thus, even if it turns out to be just a rumour this time, it seems likely that sponsorship of Premier League teams by online gambling firms will become more common in the near future.

NO MONEY

In order to arrest the turmoil from the fans, the manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Dean Saunders has said that he elected not to spend any money during the January transfer window despite having the cash.

Wolves were expected to challenge for a promotion spot in the Championship this season, but they are just two places above the relegation zone after a bad run of form. The poor run of form led to the sacking of the manager Stale Solbakken. The club appointed Saunders as his replacement, but results are yet to improve.

The poor run of form led to the sacking of the manager Stale Solbakken. The club appointed Saunders as his replacement, but results are yet to improve.

The club has not managed a single victory since the 2-1 win over Blackpool back in December. This has made them sit just two places above the relegation zone after the matches this weekend. Despite this poor run of form, the club did not spend any money during the transfer window. This has led to criticism from the fans, who have blamed the owners Morgan & Moxey for the lack of investment into the club. Saunders has admitted that he did not want to bring in players because all this transfer targets were available only at an inflated price. It is thought that the Birmingham city players Curtis Davies and Marlon King were primary transfer targets for the club.

“If the Chairman feels a player can improve us and be part of a building block for next season he is prepared to spend the money, There were a couple of players but we were being quoted silly money. Birmingham didn`t want to sell any of their players to us. I felt they would have added something to what we`ve got but they didn`t want to sell. Clubs signed players at the last minute so others become available – different players will be available on Thursday,” said the Wolves manager.

SAUNDERS JOINS WOLVES

The Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers have decided to appoint Dean Saunders to replace the former manager Stale Solbakken, who was sacked during the weekend after the FA Cup exit at the hands of Luton town. The results have been extremely poor since the 34-year-old Norwegian arrived at the club.

Doncaster Rovers revealed recently that they have received an offer for the manager. Saunders has been the clear favourite to take over the job at the club. He has done extremely well with the League One club so far this campaign. Doncaster Rovers are currently second in the League One table.

They are amongst the favourites to secure promotion to the cup championship automatically, which has been largely due to the managerial input of Saunders. Wolves have been suffering from poor form of late. They have managed to win just one match in the last 5 matches, while they recently lost during the weekend to the nonleague Luton town. This has increased the pressure on the manager significantly, who was given the task of getting Wolves back to the Premier league at the first instance. However, it looks like finishing even in the play-off position will be difficult for the club this season due to the bad first half.

“I have just come off the phone with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ chief executive Jez Moxey and can confirm that Dean Saunders has agreed to take over as manager at Molineux. We have agreed a good deal for Doncaster Rovers. Work has already started on trying to find a replacement for Dean and continue our push for promotion back to the Championship. I have spoken with Dean to thank him for the fantastic job he has done here at Doncaster and wish him well for the future,” said the Doncaster Rovers Chief executive, Baldwin.

POOR DEFENDING

The Wolves manager Stale Solbakken has heavily criticised by defending of the team in the recent match against Nottingham forest. Wolves were defeated in the match 2-1, which lifted them without a win in the last eight matches.

This poor run of form has seen them slowly slip down the table. Getting promotion into the Premier league was one of the main objectives of the team after they were relegated in the summer, but avoiding relegation is the main priority right now. The defending of the team was at its worst in the 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Wolves previous victory came in the month of October. The 1-0 away victory against Blackburn at the start of October was the final time the club tasted success in the last two months. It has seen them slip from the position where they could challenge for the play-offs to a position where they will be relegated to the third division. Solbakken has admitted that a lack of confidence is one of the main reasons for the team performing poorly. He has said that the game is extremely open for his liking, which allowed Nottingham Forest to counter-attack the home team on a number of occasions.

“We have struggled to win our even games this season. We have had too many draws, we know that. But, overall, we feel our performances at home have been okay. Obviously we need to pick up points very, very soon now – and we know that those points have to be three points, not just one. I was not happy with the way we defended. It was too open and we allowed them to counter-attack,” said the Wolves. He will be leading his team to face Millwall in the next match following which it will be Birmingham City.

PALACE BEAT WOLVES

They have been defeated in three matches, while, two of their matches have finished without any result. They currently have 16 points.

On the other hand, this was the fifth win for the Crystal in the competition. This victory helped them to move up in the points table. They are now placed at no. 4 with 16 points in 9 matches.

Both these teams had won their last three Championship matches in a row. So, this match was supposed to be a close one and that’s what it actually turned out to be. This was a thrilling encounter and the supporters who were out there in the stadium saw a display of high class football.

In the first half, neither of the two teams tried to attack too much. The approach of both the teams was defensive and there were no goals scored in the first 45 minutes.

It was the Wolverhampton Wanderers which took the lead in the 53rd minute of the match with the goal of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake. But, the Wolves weren’t able to remain ahead in the match for too long. Wilfried Zaha fired a couple of goals for Crystal in a space of 7 minutes and the Wolves got trailed by 1-2. The Crystal team managed to maintain its lead till the end and won the match.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers will now take on the Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
