ZUBAR EYES JULY RETURN

Wolverhampton defender Zubar has said that he is looking to return to the team in July. The 25-year-old needed an operation to cure a back problem and missed the final three months of the season.

Zubar told the club website: "I had to rest for a month after the surgery and then came back and started doing gym work to get the back stronger.

"I'm getting better day by day and week by week. If all is well, I will come back and should be ready for 4 July."

WOLVES BACK MCCARTHY

Wolves owner Steve Morgan has backed boss Mick McCarthy to succeed once again next season. Wolves host Blackburn at Molineux on Sunday knowing a win would be enough to keep them in the Premier League.

"You never give the dreaded vote of confidence but Mick has been here for five years and I don't believe you get any progress at all by chopping and changing," said Morgan.

"Chopping and changing happens at other clubs and what good has it done them?"

CRADDOCK STAYS ON BENCH

Jody Craddock is struggling to return to the side as Mick McCarthy has found it difficult to drop form man Richard Stearman.

Stearman has considerably improved the defensive side of his game to become a first-team regular in the battle for Barclays Premier League survival.

It means Craddock has been confined to the bench since recovering from injury.

McCarthy said: 'Jody is fit but, as much as I would like him in the team, I can't. Richard has been rock-solid.

WOODGATE TURNS DOWN WOLVES MOVE

Jonathan Woodgate has turned down a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the transfer window on a loan deal. McCarthy had hoped to recruit Woodgate, who is on the comeback trail after a career-threatening groin injury, in order to shore up his backline.

"He doesn't want to do it, he wants to fight for his place there, so fair play to him," McCarthy told the free bet website.

"I haven't spoken to him, but that's the message I've got back."

POMPEY SIGN WOLVES DEFENDER

Portsmouth have signed Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Greg Halford on a loan deal till the end of the season. The 26-year-old spent three months at Fratton Park earlier this season, scoring four goals in 12 appearances for Pompey.

"He's been a decent defender for us," Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill told the club website.

"He's obviously very flexible which helps us a lot and he's scored some important goals for us."

MCCARTHY REMOVES ANY DOUBT

Mick McCarthy has said that his job is not under any threat and he is confident of success shortly. Wolves are 20th after suffering a 2-1 loss to Wigan on Boxing Day.

"Am I feeling the pressure? It's always the same from outside," said McCarthy ahead of Wednesday's match against Liverpool at Anfield.

"I don't worry about that at all because I have a good relationship with everyone at the club."

HUNT TO REDISCOVER FORM

Stephen hunt has said that he is looking forward to rediscover his form of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Hunt, who has made eight appearances since returning from a long-standing foot injury, has only mustered one goal in Wolves' 3-2 win over Sunderland.

And the 29-year-old is desperate to prove his worth to the Wanderers faithful, starting with Sunday's derby clash with Birmingham City.

WOLVES ANNOUNCE 25 MAN SQUAD

Wolves have become first club to announce 25-man Premier League squad and have excluded Michael Kightly in their list. The former Grays Athletic winger has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury, prompting the boss to leave him out of the squad.

The ex-Sunderland manager cited the player's long-term absence - since Kightly has not played in over nine months - as the reason behind the exclusion, while revealing at the same time that the player will be allowed to go out on loan when he regains his fitness.

WOLVES TARGET BENJANI

Wolverhampton Wanderers and two other clubs are targeting Manchester City striker Benjani. The Zimbabwe international joined the Citizens in 2008, but after failing to make a significant impact at the Eastlands club he was packed off on loan to Sunderland.

However, the temporary switch to Wearside proved to be underwhelming, as the forward failed to score a single goal in the Premier League during his time at the Stadium of Light.

On his return to City, the 31-year-old was released as a free agent, and he is now free to talk to any club he chooses.
